Grandma Dot and Grandpa Joe love movies, so last Christmas, we got them Netflix. We were delighted to find that they not only see the lion's share of films, but that they enjoy many of the foreign and independent persuasion. This next post is the first in a series we call "Dot & Joe review Netflix." The opinions contained there within belong to Dot and Joe, as transcribed in their kitchen, and may/may not reflect those views of TMT proper. Also, spoiler warning.
Zwartboek (2006) Black Book
Dot: We saw a good one. Joe, what was the name of that one? It takes place during Nazi Germany. It's in Germany, Joe?
Joe: No, Holland.
Dot: Holland. What's it called?
Joe: Black Book.
Dot: Black Book. She works for the resistance and the Nazis. Its' a two and a half hour movie, and you have to read it, but...
Joe: Your grandmother has a hard time with the accents.
Dot: Especially the English. I can't. Especially those Limeys.
Joe: English is a foreign film to your grandmother.
Dot: So, the girl uses her beauty to seduce Nazis and she has this affair.
Joe: And he falls for her and they kill him for it.
Dot: She's very attractive.
Joe: She's hot. Hot as far as 1944.
Dot: But I'd have to tell you she gets killed.
Joe: But we've seen so many. Dot, where's that list (referring to their queue)
Dot: Oh, Joe, I've thrown that out a long time ago.
Joe: Oh. Anyway, we've seen a couple of South African movies. We like the foreign flicks.
Dot: We saw a couple of horrible movies.
Joe: Some bums.
Dot: With Steve, what's his name? Steve...the comedian? Steve, the minister?
Joe: Not Steve. Robin Williams. That was awful. I'd rather I went to the hospital instead.
