Come to me, my little melon-baby collie!

Pepé Le Pew is a true lover, a romantic with abounding passion. He is sexy and he wants to put that sexy on you. Yes, he might be the cartoon version of a rapist, but don't let that stop you from reading on.

Le Pew's tragic flaw is his natural stench. That and he always goes after cats who he thinks are skunks (run down the rear with dirt, usually). Us humans in the group may not find that so startling, cats, skunks, turkey sandwiches, they're all the same... but we have to just accept that cats don't want to be done by skunks, even ones as charming as Pepé.

Moreover, Pepé didn't reserve his ardor for female felines. In Scent-Imental Over You, he falls for a Park Avenue dog wearing a skunk fur coat. (Can you imagine--he is in love with a creature wearing skunk fur?) In Odor-Able Kitty, an early version of Pepé--he falls for what he thinks is a female skunk, but is in fact a male alley cat, who just wants to be left alone. This cartoon is actually really hard to come across because THE MAN is afraid it will gay up your kids.

Fun facts:

The pseudo-skunk he was always after was retroactively named "Penelope Pussycat."

In the French version of Pepé le Pew, Pépé le putois, Pépé is an Italian skunk with a strong Italian accent. Most of the dialog is in French, though some Italian words and expressions are also used, such as, mon petit farfalle, mon petit ravioli e pesto.

  1. Falling in love with a different species simply because they are wearing the skin of your own species is an honest mistake. It happens to the best of us.
